Was hoping he could get some farm time then train at SAR and aim for a listed stakes or allowance race there. But that is a pipe dream.
He was just at the farm from late October - January and came back very fresh. I don't think he's in need of a vacation quite yet. He should be ready to roll.

Here's an idea (thanks Jon Hardoon)

Add a whole new aspect to the Derby post positions.....

He with the most points earned gets to pick their post first.

The horse with the least number of points gets to take whatever is leftover after everybody else has picked their stall.

Makes sense to me and Sierra Leone and probably a few others as well.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

That does make sense…but what do you do if multiple horses have the same number of points?

i agree that sounds like a good idea, except then you'd likely end up w all the hopeless longshots on the extreme ends where they're even less likely to do anything impactful. the field is too big (which is an unpopular opinion), but until the field limit goes down, a lottery for the gate just seems like the most even way to do this. even when it negatively impacts my choices.

I don't know if I see Just A Touch leading the field but I could be wrong.

Well, Brisnet agrees with TimeformUS from the BlueGrass, they've got him with 103/112 speed figures leading the field, so who am I to argue?

This is a hail Mary, but here goes...

I'm going to be in South Jordan, UT (south SLC) on Derby day. Does anyone know of a sports bar or similar where we could go watch the race? If there's wagering, so much the better. TSN has stopped broadcasting it so I can't even pull it up on my laptop at a McDonalds or similar.

Brother in law lives there, will get confirmation soon.
But in the meantime, I'm guessing your best bet is on this list....

Interesting. I just think Dornoch is gonna go guns blazing but maybe he will fold like a cheap tent before 4f hits.

Hey thanks, I sent a message to one of the sports bars. I thought the wagering thing was a long shot, given ... Utah.

#10 on the list got his best review for tvs and food but that was for NFL games.

Because it's on NBC, I'm thinking you're in luck and the fact that there's no betting, well I should be so lucky 😉

The Timeform projection is a great example of data vs tactics. Just a Touch was close to a very fast pace in the Blue Grass; by the numbers, he is the fastest horse early in the race. That doesn't mean he'll go for it, because there's no point in challenging Dornoch and Track Phantom when your horse can rate.

Interesting to note that they rated Track Phantom a bit in his last work. He went okay, but got pretty strong in his previous one. Maybe they'll try to concede the lead to Dornoch, but I agree with Timeform- the pace looks like it will be fast. I wouldn't be shocked if Cox sends Encino as well.

I am not claiming to be an expert on horses but T O Password looked good this morning, IMO! He looks very on his toes.

T O Password looks very classy! He's way against it in here, but he does look the part.

Article about everyone anxiously waiting for vet reviews, given what happened last year. I just thought this bit was nice: https://www.drf.com/news/kentucky-derby ... g-race-day
“I wish no ill fate on anybody. I hope they all get there because they deserve to be there,” said Jeff Ennis, trainer of Epic Ride. “If something unforeseen happens, we’ll be ready to go. If he gets in great. I won’t be disappointed or angry if we don’t get in. It just wasn’t my time.”
And I know my tolerance for Repole is much higher than most people's, and he can certainly be very annoying, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing an owner yell about this on a Derby broadcast: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... -the-derby
Some of the main issues Repole has railed against, aside from his claims that the sport is "broken" due to poor leadership at the very top of it, are the inner workings of 2-year-old sales. He has also advocated for increased funding for Thoroughbred aftercare programs.

"The end user has been getting screwed," Repole said. "By the time some young horses get to a trainer, they have probably had some form of corrective surgery. They went to a yearling sale and wound up with a pinhooker who tried to get him to walk like a show horse. They buy the horse for $70,000 and they do whatever it takes to get him to run a furlong in nine seconds and change at a 2-year-old sale so they can get $700,000 for him. By then the trainer gets a horse with three legs. Fierceness is the healthiest horse we have because he was a homebred. Nothing was ever done to him."

At the behest of a follower on X, Repole said he would not bid on any of the horses that breezed before the OBS March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, focusing solely on juveniles that merely galloped.

Repole has also bristled at resistance over fees to fund aftercare programs.

"If anyone does not like the idea of paying a small fee for aftercare on the purchase of a million-dollar horse, they should get out of the sport," he said. "We don't need them."
And this is totally unrelated, but I hadn't realized that West Saratoga has a bloody shoulder (https://twitter.com/ABRLive/status/1784928790306525347). Very cool, I can't remember seeing a Derby horse with that marking!

I do find the twitter comments about Forever Young's slow works interesting. I think they are trying to compare his trainer's training methods to US training methods but I assume this is just how Forever Young trains. As they are, once again, talking about how slow Forever Young is. I wish I owned a horse as slow as Forever Young  I could use $2,049,451

The more I see T O Password, the more I like him  plus I think Kimura Kazushi is a very talented jockey.
