Sadly means he is only ruled off for what 30 days? since its more than a year past the first 2 bleeding incidents. And by the time he can race again, he'll be back down to one again because the 3rd incident was in April 23.... I wish his owner/trainer and the other owner would just accept it. He needs retired. Its beyond cruel.
i don't understand how heartless someone must be to keep running this horse. it's disgusting.
This is actually the FOURTH time he has bled, which makes it really disgusting. I would think he’s got to be doing some bleeding in his workouts too

Yeah but the way the rules work its only counted as his 2nd because incidents get struck off after a year. I don't know how he doesn't have any from working out, they probably didn't report them. Because like you I find it highly improbable that he hasn't bled while working.

Just to be clear, I do think that its disgusting that his owner/trainer keep trying to race him, its the 3rd time he has bled through lasix. No HISA can't do anything, they would have to change the bleeding rules and changes have to be submitted to the FTC to be approved. Rules are never counteractive so even if they did change them and got them approved, he'd have to go through whatever the new process would be.

The rules that HISA use are the same bleeding rules that every racing commission in the US used before HISA. Bleeding incidents are only counted for 365 days, after that they are removed. Each incident bans a horse from racing or posting workouts for a specified time, they can still be in light training.
1st incident - 14 days
2nd incident - 30 days
3rd incident - 180 days
4th incident - lifetime ban

His first incident was November 4, 2022(14 days), 2nd was December 9, 2022(30 days), 3rd was in April 29, 2023(180 days), 4th was March 10, 2024(30 days). He only gets a 30 day because it has been more than a year since the first 2 incidents.

So right now it only counts like this:
1st incident - April 29, 2023 (once it hits April 29, 2024 its gone and doesn't count and the 2024 incident will be like its his first)
2nd incident - March 10, 2024

I imagine if they chose to try and race him again, which I hope they don't but think they will, they'll wait those extra couple weeks to work him just to get that April 2023 off so he is back at 1.

They said he was vanned off. They had done an interview with his owner right before the race and the guy was so excited. I just hope the horse is okay.
Bus Buzz Scheduled for Surgery Nov. 5

He’s doing well:

“Bus Buzz, winner of the 2023 Real Good Deal Stakes, sustained an injury and was pulled up in an allowance race contested Nov. 3 at Santa Anita Park after the five Breeders’ Cup Friday races had been conducted. He had fetlock arthrodesis surgery a few days after his injury, and then spent a week at Santa Anita followed by a few weeks at Chino Valley Equine Clinic. Afterwards, he came home to Lovacres Ranch where he was born and raised by his owner Terry Lovingier, who says he is happy, relaxed, and enjoying retirement.”

Matanzas Creek just won the 6th at Santa Anita, but then broke down badly just after the wire, tossing Dettori to the ground hard. Did not look good for the colt. :(

Fandrool just relayed the news that Matanzas Creek got up and walked onto the horse ambulance. Headed back to his barn for examination.
Frankie got up and walked off. He is visiting First Aid for evaluation, but it sounds good for his condition.

FanDrool said Tim Yakteen said horse taken back to barn for evaluation. Frankie Dettori walked off track. Praying he can be saved. 4 yo son of Empire Maker was lightly raced. I wonder if he is a candidate for that fetlock fusion surgery by Dr Carpenter-see other thread in Racing.

Holy cow. RTN still has the replay up, that shows the fall in the head on right after the finish. I hope he checks out ok, he did a full somersault and then no movement. I thought he'd broken his neck.

Looked to me like a front leg gave out but hard to see exactly what happened. I really hope he can be saved.

Probably knocked the wind out of him and left him stunned.
Just heard that Dettori will be off the rest of his mounts today. He will miss three mounts, including I'm A Gambler (IRE) in the San Carlos.

Matanzas Creek had to be euthanized after sustaining a fractured foreleg, a Santa Anita executive said. It was two days short of a year since the last equine fatality in a race at Santa Anita. Jockey Frankie Dettori is said to be fine, though he’s off his remaining mounts today.

Tom Ryan of SF Racing (owners) confirmed he was euthanized "on site". It's unfortunate there were conflcting on air reports. https://twitter.com/TomRyanKY/status/17 ... 0408908225

Agree-FanDrool said what good news it was that he walked onto the ambulance and was being evaluated back at the barn. While others said he fell to the track and did not move. So sorry to hear this and RIP. Someone said this was first SA on track racing fatality in almost a year?

Is it possible that they were able to stabilize the broken leg enough to get him on the ambulance? Where it was decided that the injury was not repairable, and he was euthanized within the ambulance? I'm not sure what the protocols are on-track for a fatally-injured horse. :(

This is the AAEP guidance for catastrophic injuries on track, I’m 99% sure that Santa Anita follows this.
Prompt response to a catastrophic injury is mandatory. The regulatory veterinarian should make EVERY effort to load the injured horse into the ambulance before euthanasia. If loading is not possible, screens should be deployed. Tall screens are preferable and personnel should be trained in proper placement. The ambulance may also be used as a visual barrier. Veterinarians should engage in professional and humane conduct at all times. Chains or cables placed around the neck or limbs should never be used to load deceased horses. Horses should be rolled onto a mat and the mat then winched into the horse ambulance. Horses that expire on the racetrack should be screened from public view and covered, if necessary. Additionally, the designated area for deceased horses should be enclosed, totally screened, and secured
Here’s the full document, including protocol for non-catastrophic injuries https://aaep.org/sites/default/files/2 ... elines.pdf

Did a horse break down I'm the second at Gulfstream? Something about a dropped rider?

No. stumbled and lost the rider at the start. The horse broke super fast and then stumbled a couple strides out, was weird. The announcer completely missed it happening.
