I'd mentioned Flying Open ... Who went down hard at Fairplex on September 6th ...

Very scary incident ... as he went STRAIGHT down and 2 other horses skipped over him while dumping their jockeys because of it ...

Someone here mentioned they thought he'd clipped heels ... I didn't think it looked like that ... So I feared for his life. As it turned out ... That "someone" was right ... He clipped heels and is A-OK and doing GREAT right now ...

Here is a message I received back from Donna Keen in regards to how he's doing ...

From September 9th ...
He is doing wonderful. He actually went back to the track this morning. Other than a few little scratches from the shoes of the horse that ran over him you would never know he was injured. He never missed eating a bite of grain and has been happy as a clam with all the extra attention. Thank you for being concerned. I really believe all the prayers pulled him through this.

I heard the Big Brown filly three year old filly Shades Of Sugar broke down while racing in a
small allowance sprint with older males at Finger Lakes today.Hoping it wasn't fatal.
Any updates would be appreciated .

Reported that she was euthanized.

"...going through the turn she caught a hole in the track and caused a massive slab fracture of the knee. she was pulled up and fell where she caused extensive damage..."

Godspeed, sweetie. Seems like Finger Lakes needs to be more assiduous looking for holes.

Heard this was a horrible spill. Think another jock was hurt too, but don't know who. Have no info on the horses involved either. Fingers crossed.

I was just catching up on some of the later races, and Tea Party Girl broke down in the Pink Ribbon at Charles Town and dropped jockey Ivan Cruz.

Then the Barrett's race 12 (maiden claiming) had two fall: Bright Town clipped heels and went down, and Miss Purple Rain ran into her and fell. Jockeys involved were Julien Couton and Alonso Quinonez. It looked messy, like maybe one of them ran into the rail and flipped some of that into the air.

Edit: HRTV says that Julien was loaded onto a backboard and taken out by ambulance. They say that both riders were on the ground and didn't get up after the spill.

Miss Purple Rain walked off the track, and Bright Town was vanned off.

@raypaulick just heard from Alonso sister-in- law & brother. He is okay, only sore arm to report. Everything else ok. Thanks for praying.

Was at Laurel yesterday and saw him break down. Did not go down and jockey jumped off and held Prince around the neck rubbing him while waiting for the vet. Was a right foreleg, not open. Leg was stabilized on track (was on the turf) and was then vanned off. Still waiting for an update.

Update from DRF...no head injury, but he fractured his tailbone. And I know from experience that that is really painful...you get a shooting pain in your arse from doing the simplest things when you shift your weight.
