I like how Sierra Leone has become villainized, when he probably was the best horse in the race and potentially of the crop.
Dude may not run straight (green or physically too wonky), but he ran a huge race. He was 17th at one point, went widest of all, closed like a freight train. Huge effort.
But Mystik Dan was in a great spot on the rail, the rider made the difference.

Yoshito Yahagi has just commented in a Japanese broadcast.

''I have only one word. I'm gutted. I have to apology to the fans who backed Forever Young.''

I certainly would have been happier if BOTH horses would have not been slugging it out as I am a fan of BOTH horses and had bets on both to win. They both compromised each other which sucks as both him and Forever Young are such nice colts and lost out on a potential win cus of it.

Anyone have a link to the head on? I thought Forever Young came out too, but bounced off the giant SL.

you can be the most talented and still be a problem for the field. sorry for him and his connections, but yeah this was definitely an issue. unless you were the stewards i guess.

And, actually, the Japanese TV clue and the Japanese fans look happy with this year's results and are very proud of their horses. ;)
Forever Young was very very close to win.
Longshot T O Password ran great to fifth in the top 5.

I'm sure that THEY WILL KEEP COMING TO THE CHURCHILL DOWNS!!

sierra leone should have been taken down and put behind forever young - we re-watched the NBC telecast a couple of times when they showed the head on of those two down the stretch - SL bumped into FY, and the hind end of forever young was knocked sideways - clearly it was SL that was impeding FY - that SL has a bad habit of lugging inside during races - and he did it again - i am so sorry for FY.... i think he got screwed - and could possibly have won the race without the interference -- but i am sincerely happy for brian H - classy jock - good for him and his horse on the win.

After watching the forward facing video angle, I think Forever Young would have won. Sierra Leone leaned into him across a couple of lanes.
link to that please?
I saw it on NBC on the head on replay of the stretch run.

This isn't the whole stretch run but you can see Sierra Leone keeps pushing into the inner lanes.

Edit: this one is much better.

They're both great horses and Mystik Dan ran a great race. Taking nothing away from any of them. Just pointing out that Forever Young OR even Sierra Leone, running unobstructed, probably would have won.
