Happy for him. Given his genetics and height, he may only be able to ride at those very low weights for another year or 2 at the most. Wish him well.stelladaniella wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 10:40 am Keith Asmussen to ride Just Steel in the Derby, and Lemon Muffin in the Oaks.

Who is Ben Curtis and does he really have the mount on Honor Marie locked down.
I'm all for being loyal BUT the kid has never won a Graded Stakes race.
Anybody here know anything about this situation, seems to that there are still some big names out there that will be available?

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

He’s an Irish jock who came to the States recently - FG….and did extremely well. He rode HM to a very good second in the LA Derby - the connections had removed Bejeranostark wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 3:05 pm Who is Ben Curtis and does he really have the mount on Honor Marie locked down.

Apparently he hasn’t the assignment locked down since he hasn’t been named. I suppose the connections are waiting to see if a veteran of the Derby will be available. I don’t like the idea of a new jock getting the ride 1st time in the Derby…

I'll take any jock with positive Derby experience whenever possible.

Looks like Hades is off the Derby trail.

Hades finished seventh in the Lexington and is off the Derby trail. “We are going to regroup,” trainer Joe Orseno told Keeneland publicity. Liberal Arts also misfired in the Lexington; he finished sixth. Deterministic, the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes winner who finished eighth in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial, is unlikely to enter the Derby.

He’s ridden in the Derby once …but more to the point, I think he’d have already been named on Honor Marie if that were happening
I guess they’re waiting to see if horses drop out, leaving the jocks without mounts

This is annoyingly common at big tracks on big days. As long as you aren't bringing a huge telephoto, just bring the camera with the lens already attached. If they ask you if it detaches, say no. If they turn you away, get in line with a different person. Someone will let you through, they just don't want people scooping their media crew by bringing in huge fancy telephotos.
Note that I haven't been to the Derby, but it has never failed me anywhere else.
Untested jockeys are an important element to the Derby, but also frustratingly difficult to predict. Who could have ever imagined that Sunny Leone would give that ride on that day on that horse?

What’s “HOF” jock Calvin Bo-Rail up to these days? Is there a bus from Evangeline to Churchill?

Early this a m at Palm Beach Downs Fla. D winner Fierceness looked terrific in penultimate Ky Derby work 5/8 36.63 100.35 out 113.57 cruising throughout under Johnny V while much the best with Agate Road. Both rider and trainer Todd P singing his praises afterwards.

i love hearing all the great reports about how Fierceness is doing lately - but it also makes me nervous - after Uncle Mo and Forte, it would really stink if Repole has another Derby disappointment right before the big race - i know Repole is not everyone's cup of tea.... but i hope he, finally, gets his Derby win with Fierceness this year.

Some horses have handicapping habits you see in their PPs....good race bad race good race for example. Fierceness needs to run TWO Great races back to back in order to have the garland of roses, tough task.luvsgeldings wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:43 am i love hearing all the great reports about how Fierceness is doing lately - but it also makes me nervous - after Uncle Mo and Forte, it would really stink if Repole has another Derby disappointment right before the big race - i know Repole is not everyone's cup of tea.... but i hope he, finally, gets his Derby win with Fierceness this year.

Agent Ron Anderson said in radio interview this morning that Frankie Dettori WILL be in the starting gate for the Derby, he's just not sure on which horse as negotiations are still taking place.
Personally I'm still in favor of Honor Marie, stay tuned.

Honor Marie is only going to work one more time, on Thursday
I was worried, but apparently He’s ready to run 1 1/4 right now, lol
