Even if I don't imagine that Forever Young(JPN) is good enough to win the Kentucky Derby, he is definitely a legitimate contender this year like Crown Pride(JPN) was two years ago. (I always thought Crown Pride could have at least finished in the money with an experienced rider on the US dirt..... but that was a bonehead ride by Christophe Lemaire.)Tessablue wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 7:43 pm I always get suckered in by the UAE Derby horses, but I think Forever Young is a legitimate contender. He ran against the bias yesterday and just seems like a strong finisher who likes to win. Tough to judge how fast he is or what sort of trip he'll get, but I think he deserves consideration.
Have very little read on T O Password, the other Japanese horse... I did see that he won his last race wire-to-wire, wondering if tachyon has any insight on his running style? Could be a surprise pace factor, a la Crown Pride two years ago.
I guess that T O Password(JPN) will be up against it in the Kentucky Derby.
But he has had only two starts so far and remains undefeated. So who knows? - haha!

He paddles terribly, which you can see from the head-on. As Northport said, he looks fine from the side..Timely Writer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:32 pmOther thread Tessablue says horrendous stride, which is it? I know he's got a beautiful walk cuz he brought 2.3mil as a yearling

Imagination once again gets into a dogfight at the wire but Stronghold wins! E J Won the Cup was third.

Good duel between Stronghold and Imagination.
Both colts could have nice futures, even if the Demolition Derby is not on Imagination's dance card.

Was thinking the same thing. Boy I wish they would stop the practice of earring horses to get them in the gate. Old school practice that needs to stop. Tried that with SL and he would have none of it ( good for him). Chad has some gate schooling to do, along with training him not to hesitate and lug into every horse he passes in the stretch. So much the best today despite all the greenness won with ears pricked. Just worried if he drops back to last may get stopped or blocked in a 20 horse field. And yes the extreme paddling of the LF is concerning re: staying sound, and I am surprised none of the commentators I watched mentioned it. Just a Touch ran to his training. Not very impressed by the rest. Not sure what happened to Dornoch.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 6:03 pm That was pretty impressive. Imagine how good he could be if he ever loads without a fight, and runs straight down the stretch.

Agree. For a young horse who is hesitant to get into that claustrophobic space, I'm not sure how causing pain to sensitive ears is the way to make him less fearful.
When they finally opened the front of his stall, he loaded without much fuss. Maybe next time do that BEFORE you yank on his ear?

Dornoch was 4th, Seize The Gray 7th. Sierra Leone is a very cool horse.

Totally agreed- Crown Pride is a good horse, but he had no chance whatsoever with that ride. Forever Young is less flashy than Derma Sotogake was last year, but I wouldn't be surprised by him at all. Just wish I knew what sort of trip he'll get in the Derby! I did see that T O Password set the pace in his last start- do you know if he did the same thing in his first race? Curious to know if he'll be a pace presence.tachyon wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:20 pm Even if I don't imagine that Forever Young(JPN) is good enough to win the Kentucky Derby, he is definitely a legitimate contender this year like Crown Pride(JPN) was two years ago. Stronghold ran well, glad there will be a CA representative in the Derby. He had a pretty nice pocket there and I don't think the race was very fast, but I liked how he split horses.
90 BSF for Resilience, he's neat but that won't cut it. Sierra Leone got a 117 Timeform which translates to about a 97 BSF, pretty nice.
Looks like Liberal Arts will try to grab some points in the Lexington... for the sake of my pathetic Derby Future wagers, I wish him the best. Looks like he picks up Irad, who somehow does not have a Derby mount yet this year.

Here's a replay of T O Password's debut race (Newcomer race, 1800m dirt at Kyoto Jan 6th -- T O Password was #6 horse who raced just off the pace), Tessablue.Tessablue wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2024 1:03 amTotally agreed- Crown Pride is a good horse, but he had no chance whatsoever with that ride. I wouldn't imagine that T O Password will be fast enough to set the pace early in the Derby...but it will basically be up to his rider's decision.
Kazushi Kimura has been booked to ride him for the first time at Churchill Downs.
And, as for Forever Young, I suspect that he will race from the mid-pack (or a bit more forwardly if he could) unless his jockey Ryusei Sakai loses his calm (in the extraordinary atmosphere in the Derby).

Read this about Dornoch;
DORNOCH - 4th G1 Blue Grass Stakes
Trainer @GarganRacing
“He went really well. He got in there behind. It’s his first time really getting a lot of dirt like that, he resented it a little bit early, (jockey) Luis (Saez) said. He said he kind of ran away from the horses. (He was) a little bit stuck in there. Next time, we’ll break him out of (the starting gate on the lead) and keep his face clean, and he'll run better next time.
“There’s no pressure now. We’re going to go over there (to Churchill) and have fun”
