If so, it was very recent. They were hanging out in the paddock together on closing weekend at Saratoga.

Maybe just a business decision, rather than a personal one.

More on St Elias partnering with other buyers instead of Repole, including Spendthrift and some of the Avengers (Starlight). https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/8 ... -3-opener/

I’m so sorry to hear this. He always seemed to be one of the good guys.

ETA: Airdrie is on the same land where Woodburn Stud was located. Lexington stood at stud there. I just finished his new biography, written by Kim Wickens, and it’s well worth the read.

My sentiments exactly, HB1994. The Industry is really going to miss this man, but his legacy will help to lead it forward into somewhat troubled times. He was definitely one of the good ones!😢

Mike Repole just said on CNBC Sports “ There is nothing good about racing now.” And “I want to form an owner’s group to run racing.” Also said “ I am an idiot like everyone else” for spending 14 million dollars in the last year on racing. He said Nest will run in BC Distaff and “ she will be the favorite.” What…? Skip forward to the next turf stakes.. Repole’s Noted got beat a nose by a Mark Casse long shot Can Group. CNBC then went to a close up of a scowling Mike R.

I've tried to come up with something to say to this. I don't want to be negative. I wish him well on his endeavors, I wish that horse racing could come together and work for the betterment of the industry. But horse racing entities never play well together. Repole's "new owner/trainer group" isn't going to magically change or fix anything, there are so many horseman groups already, why not join one of those or try to get an existing one to take up his goals? Raising purses isn't going to keep horses in training as older horses. Its too easy and convenient to sign that stallion contract and get the money. No more risk, no paying insurance rates to race the horse. There was industry working together like 1 year since I've followed horse racing, the ACRS racing series in 1991. That was a lot of fun. But everything fell apart the 2nd year cause it was too much for the racetracks to work together. This is the problem when everyone has their own agendas. He said that its the time to stop being selfish and to start being selfless. But did he forget its a business and that everyone is selfish when it comes to business?

I REALLY hated the part where he complains about not getting enough free tickets/seats to the Kentucky Derby. They give an 18 person suite to the connections of each horse. I don't like CDI either. But the whole rich guy having to spend money to bring all his friends to the horse races didn't make me feel bad for him, it made him seem like an asshole. Really wished he wouldn't have said this. I get that back in 2013 owners didn't get a box and that he is mad about Forte being scratched this year. But hell man, just don't bring everyone you know and you wont spend 600k.

Boy is John Stewart/Resolute Racing on a spending spree both here and in Australia. Spent over 3 million for stakes placed mare Tutta La Vita, outbidding Coolmore. https://x.com/thetdn/status/1788584295503692165?s=46
