RE: Mr. Christina......
Trainer Dan Blacker was fined $15,000 and suspended for 90 days for running horses through 527 workouts in 1 1/2 years without completing veterinary checks beforehand.
California stewards handed down the ruling Sunday, according to the California Horse Racing Board. The penalties were reported earlier by Thoroughbred Daily News.
The ruling said that in 527 cases, no 72-hour pre-workout veterinarian examinations were conducted, as required, between Jan. 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023.
The suspension begins Feb. 26 and runs through May 25.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

He didn't realize they weren't following the CHRB requirements which were changed on January 1st, 2022. He didn't try to fight it, he took full responsibility. Here is the article from October: https://paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/ ... nary-exams

Linda Rice, the leading trainer this season at Aqueduct, was ordered to serve a 14-day medication suspension March 3-16 for a bute overage last winter, according to the New York State Gaming Commission’s rulings database.
Rice also was fined $2,000, because the now 5-year-old mare Afleet Arlene tested positive for an excessive amount of phenylbutazone after winning a $28,000 claiming race Jan. 21, 2023, at Aqueduct.

The Quarter Horse trainer who was filmed in 2022 beating a downed horse that was tied to a tree has been found Not Guilty by the jury... having watched the video back then I can say they got this badly wrong.

Watched the third at OAK and gray horse was 4-5 lengths ahead and jockey has to hit him right before the wire with no one challenging him- even announcer called it out. Seems totally unnecessary, and in my mind jockey should be fined for that.

Per DRF's Results, the winning jock in race 3 was E. Esquivel, and the trainer was C. Contreras. Not sure of first names.

Do trainers not hire accountants at all? Or if they do, are they really bad ones?stark wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 1:58 pm A federal district court in Kentucky found trainer Steve Asmussen liable for $486,520.26 in damages for wage and hour law violations.

Since I think this is either the 4th or 5th time he has gotten hit with labor or H-2B violations, in the past 10 years, I would say they were a really bad one.HB1994 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 1:35 amDo trainers not hire accountants at all? This is from his 2015 one :
"Several years ago Steve engaged the services of a professional accounting group to collect all employment data and prepare all payroll in accordance with state and federal regulations," Brewster said. "He is confident all regulations were complied with and will vigorously defend the suit."

An Inquiry/Objection in the 9th at Gulfstream after the #6 ran the (iirc) #7 into the rail on the final turn. The 7 nearly went down as her rider pulled her back, trying to avoid a fall or a crash into the rail.
The jock on the 6? Irad Ortiz.
Gee...what a surprise.
ETA: Irad was DQ'd back to last. Good on the Gulfstream stewards.
