I know the horse doesn't care LOL
but I care- when I see lousy names like this I think the horse usually lives down to its name
We've been talking about Strong Odor for a couple of years on here. It's an amusing name - and that horse has a huge fan base because of it. If the horse doesn't care, you probably shouldn't either. ;)

Remember Smelly? Second in Fountain of Youth, won Federico Tesio ... all that despite his name, which came courtesy of his sire, Judge Smells, who won the Hollywood Prevue.
Vaguely remember Smelly, but I sure do remember Judge Smells. Too bad his promising career ended so abruptly, and then the dreaded laminitis taking him, as I recall. People loved him for his name and his talent.

PINFIRE (Bolt d'Oro), in today's 3rd at Churchill, a 5 1/2 furlong MSW on the grass for 3yo+up.
Why would you name a horse after a controversial practice that leaves legs scarred? :(

Truly horrible- I can still smell that odor of burning flesh when I saw vets doing this. Should be banned. Very old school vet practice and indicative of what is wrong with racing…

I'm quite certain that he was named after the gun and its mechanism. Although obsolete, it was rapid and fast for its time - hence a good name for a horse.

There may be antique "pinfire" guns, but this is a name for a HORSE. In horse racing, what is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear 'pinfire?'

Pinfiring has only been obsolete since HISA took over. No matter if they used burning, freezing, or acid it was still called pinfiring and last year's HOTY had it done. I agree terrible name and awful torture that they subjected horses to. There is just no common sense to yeah let's INJURE an animal to make it heal faster. Its the exact same as saying, Oh you sprained your ankle, here let me give you 3rd degree burns and that will fix it.

The idea behind pinfirng was to increase bloodflow to the original injury site in hopes of speeding up healing. Which seems counter productive because the pinfiring forced a trainer to give the horse time off. Which is something they should have been doing anyway.

from the article: Slow Down Andy refers to golfing buddy Andy Redmond who has a tendency to play too fast.

Is the horse's leg action reminiscent of a sewing machine? ;)

Freud's Fetish (Freud - Khe Sanh, by Tactical Cat)

Originally named Emmett Cullen (fictional character from Twilight, Edward's jockish "brother") which was a much better, stronger name.

A 2yo filly in the Soviet Problem Stakes at LosAl is named Petite Fillet. :(
Naming a horse after a cut of meat is pretty awful.

Her dam is Charred Rare so her being name Petit Filet is keeping with the theme.... Though it is strange. Other foals out of the dam are Shish Kabob, Carnivorous, and Vegan.

I have now seen 2 articles today on Honor A.P.’s son, Dancing Porky , winning at Turf Paradise. It just left me SMH.
