I realize he must be named after the mountain as his second dam is Quest to Peak, but "jungfrau" actually means young woman, maiden, or virgin.
Jungfrau is a region in Switzerland, which is in the Alps. So I don't think you were far off with the mountain guess.
Yes, I know--it's actually a peak in the same range as the Eiger. I've taken the train to the Jungfraujoch station--11,332 feet passing through ice caves! (Or at least there were ice caves in the 1980's :( )
The Jungfrau sits next to the Monch and Eiger mountains. Monch means Monk and Eiger means Ogre. The story is that the monk is protecting the young maiden from the ogre.

Sorry, I just love stories behind names !

Illustrated (Justify/Appealing Zophie) finally makes his debut next Saturday at GP in R4. Coolmore and partners paid $1.1m for the 1/2 to Tapwrit at the FT 2YO sale.

Another expensive 2YO purchase from last year is also making a belated debut next Saturday in R7 at FG. Rule Breaker (Into Mischief/Artemis Agrotera). He went for $1m at OBS March to a large ownership group that includes Spendthrift and his breeders, the Bromans.

I missed that Godolphin purchased Tranquil Lady (Australia X Repose, by Quiet American) for 2,700,000gns at Tatts last December. The four year old filly is half to State of Rest. Tranquil Lady made her debut for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby at Meydan on Friday in the Group 2 Balanchine... and finished last of 8.

Hopefully she finds improvement, but either way she'll be a great broodmare prospect. The family got a huge vote of confidence when Juddmonte privately purchased Repose in May of 2022.
