What's the deal with Auction Horses Rescue?? I've been following them on FB for a long time. Today Liza G. Fly (of the Zenyatta song fame) is calling them out as a scam. "This rescue group is a scam. They post pictures of starving horses and make loads of money off bleeding hearts. But after posting her picture, they acted against me when I tried to get my own horse back that had fallen into the wrong hands. NOT ALL RESCUE GROUPS ARE LEGIT. DO SOME RESEARCH before sending money."

I feel like part of the story is missing. Apparently AHR has a horse, Western Love, that used to be Liza's or Jack's. Sounds like Liza offered to go get the mare but AHR only wants money from her.

Anyone know the skinny on this? AHR never struck me as anything but an honest hard working rescue.

I wouldn't know, but I also wouldn't return a horse to a previous owner who had disposed of the horse in a manner that eventually led to Western Love's condition when she was rescued by AHR. Ms Fly may simply be lashing out in retaliation.

This is what AHR posted on Facebook June 10 regarding Western Love. If they didn't want to send her back off to someone who had let her go in the past, not sure I blame them--especially considering she's in the middle of some hefty vet care (and possibly can't be moved right now in the first place):
"Western Love" is making steady progress, after a middle of the night rescue mission to shuttle a profoundly lame Thoroughbred ex-racehorse, broodmare, and daughter of Mr Greeley to West Coast Equine Hospital.

It has sadly been confirmed the mare has been three-legged lame for a very long time, with a chronic sub solar abscess in her hoof. The heaving and lurching of her body on her 3 good legs to walk appears to have done some damage to her left front, but at this point the goal is to get her comfortable enough on all 4 legs for her chance at rehabilitation to be assured.

The Kentucky bred Thoroughbred started off as a racehorse in Art Sherman's barn, then became a broodmare for a number of racing Quarter Horse breeders, producing 9 foals - 7 of which raced.

Shockingly, we realized poor Western Love is the dam of one of our long time volunteers personal horses, Simplyfly.

It makes one wonder, when looking at a horse's pedigree, how many generations past ended up slaughtered, or a horrible neglected end.

There is no way Western Love could have survived the journey to a Mexican or Canadian slaughter plant. She would not have even survived a single night on a feed lot. By the time we found her, she was having difficult staying upright, from the fatigue alone. Her hind legs beginning to give out from the burden, as much as her "good" front leg.

With all the famous stallions pensioned and given luxurious retirements, we wish more breeding operations would legitimately retire their faithful broodmares. And not, as is so often the case, euphemistically - "retirement" a known code word for sending to slaughter.

Fortunately, Western Love is safe, after all.

Ok from further reading on Liza's FB it seems the horse she is talking about is NOT Western Love but a filly she calls Fire. Frankly I'm confused by the whole thing and I'm not really sure what it is she's accusing AHR of. I tried to find her original post so I could reread it but it appears she's deleted it. I was just hoping someone here might have more info and could shed some light on it.

I'll keep my ears open, but this was the first I've heard of anything.

Someone has started a FB group that looks to be a AHR bashing page. Best I can tell from reading the posts, is that the woman who runs AHR is being accused of being a horse trader. She flips horses for profit. It would appear from the posts that she goes to the auctions not so much to rescue horses but to buy the healthy/sound horses with the intent of turning around and reselling them. Obviously she does rescue some. A few of her previous fosters are saying they've fostered horses in the past, all at their cost, and then once the fostered horse is sold/adopted they don't get to share in any of the money.

I've 'liked' the AHR FB page for a long time. I've followed the stories of a lot of their rescues. All this kerfuffle seems a bit odd to me.

Don't know what the heck happened here, but it could be that this "Lisa" is trying to start some trouble, perhaps affiliated with a kill buyer and pissed off? All kinds of crazies on the internet.

Urgent - at Cranbury Sales Stable (formerly Camelot Auction) and being fund-raised for by All the King's Horses Equine Rescue:

Cranbury Sales Stable (formerly Camelot Auction) runs a weekly Wednesday night auction and holds over unsold horses at least until the following Sunday 2 pm ET. At the moment there are several equines that did not find a buyer at their first go-round through the auction, were held over and run back through the following weeks’ auctions. The original plan had been that any horses left over after the Sunday 2 pm deadline would get shipped back to New Holland, but they have worked with the CHW network which shares out info on these horses left over from the auctions, and so have accumulated a larger than normal group of held over horses.

https://www.facebook.com/CamelotHorseWe ... =3&theater

Yearling mini mare #38 at Cranbury Sales Stable (formerly Camelot Auction) urgently needs out, before her health certificate expires and she becomes no longer available for sale to the public. She has lost weight since her picture was taken, has now been at the sales stable for several weeks, and reportedly appears to be getting sick. All The Kings Horses Equine Rescue is trying to fundraise for her and hoping to be able to pull her before she gets worse or her health certificate expires. Please consider contributing, or adopting the young mini directly. PayPal for All the King’s Horses Equine Rescue is allthekingshorsesequinerescue@gmail.com. Telephone number for Cranbury Sales Stable is (609) 448-5225 If you wish to purchase a horse, please contact them directly. Horses are located at Cranbury Sale Stable, 43 Brickyard Road, Cranbury, NJ.

Please note that coming from an auction environment, horses should go through a quarantine period before being introduced to your resident horses.

And there's a simply stunning looking, elegant appy gelding whose body shape looks like a standardbred. He's a driving horse that came out of Amish country. https://www.facebook.com/CamelotHorseWe ... =1&theater SOLD

And so, so many others!

Remarkably, a great many of the horses and other equines that were left over from auctions at Cranbury Sales Stable did find a new home today. One more (the mare with foal at her side) is scheduled to be pulled first thing tomorrow morning by a New Jersey rescue, and a CT rescue (Beech Brook Farm) is still fundraising for mini mare #43 (PP address beechbrookfarm@yahoo.com; per BBF, they will refund donations if they cannot gather sufficient funds to pull the mini mare).

The ones still waiting are:

bay gelding #64 (from 8/12) SOLD
hackney gelding # 39 and #34(from 9/2) SOLD
the pretty paint mare #30 (from 9/2) SOLD
chestnut standardbred gelding #8 (from 8/26) SOLD
chestnut standardbred gelding #9 (from 8/26) still available
the mule team #24 and#25 (from 9/2) SOLD
the spotted donkey stud driving team #12 and #13 (from 8/26) SOLD
the two mini mares #43 and #46. (from 9/2) SOLD

The message relayed via one of the buyers was that the cut off time will be 9 am Sunday (and not 2 pm as normally), and that any animals unsold by then would get shipped back to New Holland.

Police are looking for the owners so that the horses can be legally surrendered to the SPCA; and they can be charged.

Silver and Smoke's breeder took her back. I don't know about the other two.

Just puzzled how the filly ended up in that horrific situation. The article mentioned the breeder taking her back when she suffered an injury as a 2YO, but then from there it goes to the South Florida shantytown. If the breeder adopted the horse out to what seemed like an upstanding, responsible, compassionate adopter, she should say, if nothing else, to stop this person.
Looks like the breeder, bred her after getting her back to health.
